How to Laser Cut with Laser Welder
The handheld laser welding machine manufactured by Chutian Laser offers more than just welding capabilities; it also includes a versatile “laser cutting” function. This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively use your laser welder for precise laser cutting.
Step 1: Select the Appropriate Nozzle
Our laser welder comes with a variety of nozzles, each designed for different applications. For laser cutting, it’s crucial to choose the specific nozzle intended for laser cutting purposes. Refer to the accompanying diagram to identify the correct nozzle.
Step 2: Configure Laser Cutting Parameters
Laser cutting with a laser welder requires a different set of parameters than welding. Here are the key settings:
- Scan Speed: This parameter can be set arbitrarily, as it does not affect cutting.
- Scan Width: Set to ZERO to ensure the red light is focused as a single point.
- Peak Power: It’s recommended to use full power for cutting. However, adjust this setting according to your specific needs and material thickness.
- Duty Cycle: A reference value of 100% is suggested for optimal performance.
- Frequency: Set this to a reference value of 1000.
After configuring these parameters, import them into the machine. You can view the process on the left side of the homepage. Additionally, for optimal cutting results, use a negative focal point setting.
Step 3. Keep Red Light in Center
The position indicated by the red dot is where the laser will make contact, so it is crucial to ensure that the red dot is centered. If not, the laser will directly hit the copper nozzle, causing it to overheat and become damaged.
Step 4. Begin Laser Cutting with a Laser Welder
Now you’re ready to start cutting with your laser welder. Keep the following considerations in mind:
- Focus Requirement: Proper focus is critical for clean cuts.
- Gas Requirements:
For a cleaner, whiter cut surface, use nitrogen gas at a pressure of over 6 kg.
For cutting thicker materials, use oxygen or air, which will result in a darker cut surface.
Avoid using argon gas as it may lead to poor cutting results.
- Cutting Thickness: For best results, the material should be less than 3mm thick.
- Cutting Speed: Maintain a consistent hand speed during the cutting process for an even cut.
By following these steps and settings, you can leverage the laser cutting function of your handheld laser welder to achieve precise and high-quality cuts.
